You've found the litter you want to use. But your cat won't use it. This is the part people get wrong.
Cats get used to what they dig in, so a sudden change in texture underfoot throws them off. Handled badly, a switch turns into a week of finding surprises next to the box.
The gentle way: scoop & replace
- Start half and half. Mix 50% of your cat's current litter with 50% PawHalo. Stir it together so it's one blend, not two layers.
- Top up with PawHalo only. Each time you scoop out waste, refill with PawHalo instead of the old litter.
- Let it drift. With every scoop-and-refill, the blend shifts a little further on its own.
- Done in a week or two. By then the box is 100% PawHalo.
Switch every box at once
If your cat uses more than one box, put the same half-and-half blend in every box and move them to 100% together. Same in multi-cat homes — one box per cat, plus one spare.
Change one thing at a time
While you're switching, don't also:
- move the box
- switch between open and covered
- change how deep you fill it
- add a scented liner, deodorizer, or spray
Any of these alone can put a cat off a box.
If your cat switches instantly
Plenty do. If yours uses a full box of PawHalo on day one, you're done — no mixing needed.
If your cat is hesitant
Smaller steps. Hold the ratio steady for a few extra days at each stage.
Keep the box clean. Cats are much more willing to try a new surface in a freshly scooped box.
Don't move it. Same corner, same spot.
Give it more time. A cautious cat might take three or four weeks.
Watch where they go. If your cat uses the spot right next to the box, the spot is fine but the surface isn't. Slow the ratio back down.
