It Began With One Cat
Jaclyn Chen — Founder
Rescue is where it started.
See how we give back →When our founder Jaclyn Chen’s elder daughter Angela was in high school, she was living far from home — on her own, and quietly lonely. Then she adopted a cat from a rescue, and everything changed. The little companion brought her joy again, and from afar Jaclyn saw just how deeply a cat can lift a person’s life.
Before long, that same joy became Jaclyn’s own. Today she shares her home with three cats, each one loved into her family:
- Click to see Milky →Milky, the Ragdoll — her younger daughter Gianna’s cat, and part of the family too.
- Click to see Seven →Seven, the Maine Coon — Jaclyn cared for a friend’s cat so devotedly — driving him long distances to the vet, seeing him through surgery for eyelashes that grew inward and scratched his eyes, and nursing him back to health afterward — that the friend gave him to her for good.
- Click to see Luna →Luna, the black rescue kitten — hit by a car in Monterey Park, California, and close to death. Jaclyn and her rescue friends raised over $10,000 to save her. A nurse friend fostered her back to health, and she found her forever home with Jaclyn.
“With three cats at home, I know exactly what a busy litter box needs.”
But when Jaclyn went looking, she couldn’t find one good enough for a multi-cat home.
The litters on the shelf each let cat parents down in their own way — clay clouded the air with dust, corn tracked like sand and lost the odor battle fast, and even most tofu litters never quite got the pellet right. Worst of all, hardly any brand tells you the one thing that makes or breaks a new litter: how to switch your cat from their old litter to a better, healthier one.
So Jaclyn led her R&D team to build the litter she couldn’t find — a plant-based tofu and wood-fiber blend, refined until it clumps fast, stays low-dust, and holds odor even in a house full of cats — and she pairs it with patient, real-world guidance for making the switch. If you’d like the full story, here’s how PawHalo is different from other tofu litters.
It’s the litter she trusts with her own cats. It all comes from one simple hope: healthier cats, and healthier people who love them.
