The gentlest method is a gradual mix. Start half-and-half, then slowly shift the ratio toward PawHalo each time you scoop:
- Begin with a box that's 50% your cat's current litter and 50% PawHalo, mixed together.
- As you scoop out waste over the next several days, top the box back up with PawHalo instead of the old litter.
- With each scoop-and-refill, the blend naturally shifts to more and more PawHalo.
- Within about a week or two, the box is 100% PawHalo — and your cat barely noticed the change.
★ Switch all your litter boxes at the same time.
If your cat uses more than one litter box, put the same half-PawHalo, half-old-litter blend in every box. Don’t leave some boxes on old litter only — when the boxes don’t match, cats crowd onto the familiar ones and avoid the new litter, which stalls the switch. Keep all the boxes on the same blend, then move them to 100% PawHalo together.
How long does the transition usually take?
For most cats, one to two weeks is plenty. Because you're only replacing what you scoop out, the shift happens at a natural, low-stress pace. There's no need to rush — let your cat set the tempo.
What if my cat takes to it right away?
That's completely normal — and great! Every cat is different. Many cats have no problem switching to PawHalo immediately, with no gradual mixing needed at all. If your cat is happily using a full box of PawHalo from day one, there's nothing more you need to do.
